The Michigan Chapter of ASLA has announced the winners of its 2010 President’s Awards. Three individuals and one firm were honored this year. The award winners included: Robert Ford, ASLA, recipient of the Distinguished Member award. Ford has been an active member in ASLA since 1982. He served as president of the Michigan Chapter in 1987 and chairperson for the Legislative Committee from 1986 to 1989 – laying the ground work for our licensure change from a title act to a practice act in these early years. He has served on the Lansing Community College faculty advisory board since 1987 and has been an occasional instructor and guest lecturer at Michigan State University since 1986 – receiving the Faculty of the Year Award in 1992.

The recipient of the Outstanding Firm award was JJR. Founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1961 by brothers Carl and William Johnson and Clarence Roy, JJR has grown into a nationally recognized, multidisciplinary land planning and design firm with offices in Ann Arbor, Mich., Chicago, Madison, Wisc., Phoenix, Ariz. and Washington, D.C.

The 2010 Emerging Professional of the Year award winner was Clare Jagenow, ASLA. Jagenow has been a valuable and dedicated member of JJR’s team since she joined the firm in 2006. She participates in a wide range of projects including campus design, urban development, waterfront and residential environments.

The final President’s Award is the Honor Award. This award is the highest award given by the chapter to an individual that is not a landscape architect, for significant support of landscape architects, community design, the profession or the environment. Dr. John Richter is this year’s recipient of the Honor Award. Dr. Richter is a veterinarian and a founding member and president of the Friends of the Jordan River Watershed.
