The Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, Calif. played host to the 2010 Quality of Life Awards presented by the ASLA Southern California Chapter.

More than 150 attendees were present at the 2010 edition of the Quality of Life Awards - "Building and Celebrating Community Through Landscape Architecture." Design projects by professionals and students were recognized at the event.

Professionals
Award recipients in the "Design - Commercial" category included Merit Awards to ValleyCrest Design Group for its Malibu Lumber Yard project; LRM, Ltd. Landscape Architecture for Santa Monica Place; Pamela Burton and Company for Explande Brazil; and an Honor Award to Van Atta Associates, Inc. and Blackbird Architects for Casa Nueva.

Winners in the category "Design - Park and Recreation" included: Honor Awards to Wallace Roberts and Todd, Inc. for Baldwin Hills and Van Atta Associates, Inc. for the Bohnett project. Merit Awards were received by RRM Design Group for Venice Beach; Mia Lehrer and Associates for Vista Hermosa; Borthwick Guy Bettenhausen, Inc. for San Clemente; and the city of Mission Viejo in partnership with RJM Design Group for Oso Creek Trail.

Pamela Burton and Company received an Honor Award in the "Design - Residential Garden" category for the Scenario Lane project. Merit Awards were received by Mark Tessier Landscape Architecture, Inc. for West End Lofts and Keith LeBlanc Landscape Architecture for Padaro Lane. AHBE Landscape Architects earned an Honor Award in the residential garden category for the South Park Streetscape and Block Development.

Two Honor Awards and two Merit Awards were issued in the "Design - Institutional" category. Honor Awards were received by Marci Harris Landscape Architecture for Olivewood Gardens and Pamela Burton and Company for Beckman Coulter. Pamela Burton and Company also received a Merit Award for its UC Irvine project. AHBE Landscape Architects earned a Merit Award for F.E. Weymouth.

Keith LeBlanc Landscape Architecture received an Honor Award in the "Design - Historical" category for Miraval.

Merit Awards in "Planning and Analysis" were received by: Rios Clemente Hale Studios for Grand Avenue Civic Park; AECOM Design + Planning for two projects, Duck Farm and Hollywood Freeway Central Park Feasibility Report; and Mia Lehrer and Associates for two projects, LA Rec and Parks Wide Needs Assessment and Piggyback Yard.

Merit Awards for "Design - Environmental and Sustainable" were earned by RRM Design Group for Whittier Greenway Trail and Ann Christoph Landscape Architect, ASLA and South Laguna Civic Association for the South Laguna Community Garden. LPA, Inc. received an Honor Award for its Environmental Nature Center project.

Architerra Design Group received a Merit Award in the "Design - Transportation" category for its Million Air Aviation project. AHBE Landscape Architects earned an Honor Award in this category for its Angels Knoll Plaza project.

David Evans and Associates, Inc. received a Merit Award in the "Design - Land and Water Reclamation" category for its Oak Glen Creek Detention project. Architerra Design Group received an Honor Award in this category for its North Etiwanda Preserve project.

Robert C. Perry received an Honor Award in the Communication category for his book, Landscape Plants for California Gardens. Van Atta Associates, Inc. earned a Merit Award in this category for The Southern California Native Flower Garden Book. Rios Clemente Hale Studios earned an Honor Award in the Landscape Art category for its project Chicago Federal.
