Bill Baker's "Improve Efficiencies in Grounds Management "

This presentation addresses what is required to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a turf and landscape maintenance operation. It involves reviewing both the problems, and the opportunities, that are directly related to the physical elements of the site, the infrastructure, and the operating systems that are currently in place. Also described are the measurements and methods used to determine the efficiency and the effectiveness of the operation.


David Franklin's "Stormwater Pollution Controls for Landscape Design, Construction and Maintenance"
Oct. 6th, 12:30 to 2:30

The seminar will focus on activities of landscape contractors and explain CWA requirements, the penalties for non-compliance, what pollutants in stormwater runoff are of concern, principles of erosion and sediment control, correct installation of Best Management Practices (BMPs), strategies for landscape contractors to comply, how to understand a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), which is required for projects over 1 acre, and how regulations will affect the future of the landscape industry including business opportunities for installing permanent post construction water quality measures such as grassy swales and permeable pavement.. Photos of jobsite successes and failures will be shown.



Craig Hutchinson's "Generate Income While Saving Clients Water"

This seminar will provide an overview of current techniques in water conservation in the Landscape Industry provided by Landscape Architect, Craig Hutchinson. After 30 years as an owner of a landscape construction/maintenance/design company, Craig Hutchinson, has been a spokesperson for both the CLCA and ASLA providing seminars on how to save water in the landscape. More importantly with current techniques this seminar will provide the Landscape Contractor in this current economy how to generate considerable additional income while actually saving water and money for their clients.

Craig will be giving out free samples of liquid latex from AquaLox and also giving out samples of Mycorrhizal fungi.



Donald Bottger's "Employee Safety in the Landscape"
Oct. 7th, 9:30 to 10:30

The talk will concern itself with how employers can develop safety programs for the landscape industry that are not only compliant with regulations but also effective in their outcomes. The class will talk about regulatory requirements, safety meetings, post incident and post near-miss investigations, safety suggestion programs, management buy-in and the personalization of safety training programs.
