AutoCAD to Photoshop Rendering, 1 business CEU APLD, 2 CEUs LA CES

Course Description:

Whether a project is drafted by hand or by computer, Photoshop rendering can be used to add the finishing touches and maximize your presentation drawings by adding color, create mixed media effects and combine drawings for a seamless presentation. This workshop will demonstrate rendering techniques using Photoshop CS tools specific for landscape architecture including the use of online graphic resources and development of techniques for a variety of medium styles including marker and water color. It will also cover information on importing projects as scans or from other computer applications, printing/saving, file extensions, and resolution for file management. Basic computer skills are required; a familiarity with Photoshop is preferred.

This is a hands-on workshop, you must bring a laptop computer with Photoshop in order to participate.

Biography:

Ashley Calabria is an Associate Professor of landscape architecture in the College of Environment and Design. Professor Calabria has taught computer graphics for over 15 years and also teaches traditional graphic communication and portfolio development. Her publications and conference presentations focus on shifts in graphic techniques within the profession and the impact that computer applications have on traditional means of graphic representation. Ashley is currently co-author of a book titled Computer Graphics for Landscape Architects: An Introduction and is the Associate Editor of Digital Information for Landscape Architect and Specifier News.

In regard to service, she was Design Chair for the World of Wonder Playground in Athens, Georgia, which at the time was the largest community built playground in the state. Several years ago she collaborated with students and worked on a conceptual master plan for the Alps Road Elementary school campus. More recently, Professor Calabria has been a part of several successful interdisciplinary grants which fund workshops for public school teachers on developing educational gardens. In the fall of 2011, under a new UGA Freshman seminar initiative, she taught a freshman class on educational gardens which toured and researched garden projects and then developed lesson plans for local elementary school teachers.

She has received numerous teaching awards including CED Faculty of the Year award for two separate years and the student-elected Faculty of the Year award. She has taught in Cortona, Italy and plans to continue her international teaching exposure with Costa Rica and eventually Brazil, where her husband's family is from. Professor Calabria holds a BS in Environmental Science in Botany from the University of North Carolina-Asheville and an MLA from the University of Georgia.
