News from the Deck and Railing Industry
Co-locating with the Remodeling Show and JLC LIVE, the DeckExpo is part of what is billed as the residential construction industry's largest national event. Held this year in Baltimore, the Conference runs from October 5-7 and the Exhibit Hall is open October 6 and 7. Among the educational sessions are Deck Evaluation/Inspection Certification Class for Industry Professionals, Creating the "Wow Factor" in Deck Design, Deck Staining and Maintenance, Natural Wood Decks - Design and Craftsmanship, Building with Next Generation Polymer Decking, and two Deck Builders Workshops.

The North American Deck and Railing Association helps guide code writing and regulations including the 2018 International Residential Code. NADRA's website contains two documents with the Deck Code Coalition's recommended revisions for the new IRC and is soliciting questions, comments and concerns from industry professionals about the documents, which are still "under construction."

A fastener-free look for deck surfaces is gaining popularity over traditional face-fastened galvanized screws that besides being less attractive, can rust, split the wood, pop up over time and heat up in the sun. A new method of this is known as edge-fastening as demonstrated by the CAMO Edge Pro, a proprietary guide tool that attaches wood, composite and PVC deck boards directly to the joists with CAMO Hidden Fasteners, which are driven into the sides or edges of each board by a drill.

As seen in LC/DBM magazine, September 2016.
