For owners or caretakers of private, public and corporate lands residing in one of twelve selected states, the "Seed A Legacy" Pollinator Habitat Program, formed by the Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund, is offering free seeds for plants that benefit pollinator activity.

States that are eligible for free seed distributions are:

Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Michigan
Minnesota
Missouri
Nebraska
North Dakota
Ohio
South Dakota
Wisconsin

To apply, visit beeandbutterflyfund.org and fill out the application. Applications are accepted online only, and for accepted projects that are 2 to 25 acres in size, the seed mixtures will be free. Anything larger and the seeds will be discounted.

Pollinator Partnership

In other pollinator related news, the Pollinator Partnership, founded in 1997, has recently launched their new initiative called "Project Wingspan." It is a two-year study, funded by a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Federation, aimed at enhancing " land across the Midwest to support our imperiled pollinators."

The program is calling for seed collector volunteers in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. Training and seed collection will begin in spring 2019, but sign-ups are open now. Follow this link to sign up: https://tinyurl.com/ybvlhs7e.
