ASLA Prairie Gateway hosted the 2018 Central States Conference where professionals and students gathered to learn in sessions and present projects.

This past April 11 - 13, the Prairie Gateway Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects had the pleasure of hosting the 2018 Central States Conference, which brings together ASLA members from 8 Mid-west states (6 ASLA Chapters) for two days of education sessions, tours, and product expo. We were thrilled to host over 300 attendees for approximately 16 education opportunities. Awards were presented to 20 different professional and student projects for some outstanding built, planning, and research work! Over 50 sponsors and exhibitors were present and were a huge part of Conference success. With proceeds from the Conference attendance and sponsorship, PGASLA was able to dedicate a new scholarship to the K-State Landscape Architecture program for students participating in a leadership role. We feel fortunate to be able to provide this kind of support to the next generations of landscape architects.

Landscape architects come together to play tennis and socialize away from a work setting.

In the past year the Prairie Gateway Chapter of ASLA has started up a quarterly Social Club. These fun, laid-back events bring our community of landscape architects together for some non-work-related activities. So far, we have been able to host events for pickleball, axe throwing, outdoor games, and general happy-hour.

Due to the Explore Design! Outreach program, middle school and high school students learn about design opportunities through hands-on and interactive activities.

Teamed with the other professional organizations at the Center for Architecture and Design in Kansas City (AIA, APA, IIDA, AIGA), PGASLA has helped to develop and implement an educational outreach program called Explore Design! for Kansas City schools. This program is focused on middle school and high school students, teaching them about possible careers in Design, and taking them through hands-on activities to explore Architecture, Planning, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Graphic Design.

As seen in LASN magazine, December 2018.
