ASLA members have selected Shawn Kelly, FASLA, as their 2017-2018 president-elect. Kelly was sworn in as president-elect at the ASLA 2017 annual meeting in Los Angeles on Oct. 22, and officially becomes president at the 2018 meeting in Philadelphia.

Kelly ran against Robert Golde, FASLA, a 35+ year professional who is the sole principal and lead designer of Towers|Golde, a mid-sized firm of eight landscape architects in New Haven, Conn. Licensed in 14 states, Bob has garnered the respect of allied professionals, and his firm's work has been recognized with national and regional design awards.

Vaughn Rinner, FASLA, is the current ASLA president. She was sworn in as president at the 2016 ASLA meeting in New Orleans, and turns over the presidential reins to Gregory Miller, president of the Morrow Reardon Wilkinson Miller Ltd. firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the 2017 meeting in Los Angeles. Miller was inducted as an ASLA Fellow this year.

Shawn Kelly is married with three grown children. He was born in Colorado, grew up in Arizona, and was originally licensed as a landscape architect in California. He is currently licensed in Wisconsin and principal of Kelly Design Group (KDG), a landscape architecture firm in Williams Bay, Wisc. KDG produces full service, concept-to-construction drawings for a variety of project scales and scopes. All projects include stormwater management, with an edge toward water harvesting, water quality improvement and place-based design.

Kelly is also a full-time faculty member in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he has taught the core courses in the accredited bachelor's program for 21 years. Kelly is also the director of the Center for Sustainable Design at the university, which he created and manages.
