Awards A Plenty Merit, Honor and Medallion Awards Abound Sioux Falls, SD At the South Dakota Building Industry Convention that was held on November 10-12, 1999 the Great Plains Chapter of the ASLA hosted their Awards Program. Two firms were awarded with the prestigious Honor Award: Prairie Partners, Inc. based in Brookings, South Dakota, received their award for the James River Information Video and Design Works, Inc., based in Rapid City, South Dakota was awarded for the Niobrara River and Greenbelt Beautification Master Plan. Five additional awards were presented in the Merit Award category. The winners included: EDAW, Inc. based in Fort Collins, for their design of the Hershey's Children's Garden; Big Muddy Workshop Inc., based in Omaha, Nebraska, received awards for the Falls Park Master Plan and Interpretive Exhibit and also the Back to the River Master Plan and Trails and River Crossing Plan; EDAW, Inc., located in Denver, Colorado was awarded for their Urban Design project, A New Landscape Vision for Omaha's Grand Old Parks; and the Des Moines, Iowa based firm of Brian Clark & Associates was honored for their project, Temporary Connections. In July, GPC presented Medallion Awards to three designed landscapes in the Omaha and Lincoln areas. The City of Lincoln was presented with a Medallion award dedicated to Pioneers Park, which was created in 1930 by well-known Landscape Architect Ernst Herminghaus. In Omaha, Medallion Awards were dedicated to two parks: the Gene Leahy Mall designed by Lawrence Halprin in 1974, and Omaha's Historic Park and Boulevard System, 1888-1900, by H.W.S. Cleveland.
