Conference Goes Down Under

Conference to include a panel of distinguished keynote speakers and a variety of topics. Welcoming the wider turf industry on June 21-25, Melbourne Australia will play host to the 20th Australian Turfgrass Conference and Trade Exhibition. This year's conference will focus on golf course management, machinery management, sports field management and bowling green management. The four streams will offer a variety of knowledge while encompassing the wider turf industry. The conference is set to be the larges turf grass conference of 2004. Scheduled to speak at the conference is a group of well-respected industry professionals, including: Dr. Robert Carrow, professor of turf grass science, Dr. Bruce Clark, professor of turfgrass pathology and Ron Duncan, professor of crop sciences and turf ecosystems. Dr. Bruce Clarke, professor of plant pathology at the University of New Jersey, will present key research findings on the influence of management practices on turfgrass disease and takeall patch. "We will be talking about the influence of management practices like fertility, mowing heights, soil pH, influences on thatch and all the influences that would affect those factors," said Clarke. "So basically, we will be talking about anything that a golf course superintendent or landscaper does." Dr. Robert Carrow of the University of Georgia will discuss the latest in water and salinity strategies available to all turf managers. According to Carrows, some of the topics he will cover will be cutting edge water conservation strategies and water, soil moisture and salinity monitoring procedures. Carrows said he will discuss current state of these topics and where he thinks they will be going in the future. According to the conference directors, the trade exhibition will be the focus of the conference week. The Melbourne Exhibition Centre will allow industry professionals to gain new experience and knowledge of the latest products.
