Earn IA CEUs by Listening to the Radio
"The Water Zone" Partners with IA


Hosts of The Water Zone radio show Mike Baron and Rob Starr from The Toro Company will be joined by IA-certified irrigation specialists to offer CEUs through the radio show starting April 27.

The Water Zone radio show ( was launched in 2015 to address the California drought.

Now the show, hosted by irrigation specialists Mike Baron and Rob Starr from Toro, has partnered with the Irrigation Association to offer on-air educational training for irrigation and landscape professionals.

Training will be conducted quarterly by a rotating group of IA-certified irrigation specialists. Listeners will be able to earn IA continuing education units (CEUs). The first series of technical presentations will air April 27, 2017, and will focus on irrigation hydraulics and basic system troubleshooting techniques.

The number of CEUs available will vary depending on the length and topic of the show. The upcoming session falls under tier 1 for IA CEUs, so each 30-minute session would earn 0.5 CEUs. Each 20-minute session would be worth .33 CEUs.

"This is a first for our industry," stated Rob Starr, co-host of The Water Zone. "We are honored to partner with the Irrigation Association to provide a unique way to further educate professionals and the public about irrigation systems and proper landscape water management."

The Water Zone broadcasts live on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Pacific on KCAA 1050 AM, 102.3 FM and 106.5 FM in Southern California. Outside of the listening area, the shows can be accessed via UStream or at Additionally, previous episodes can be downloaded as podcasts.

Irrigation Association CEUs are self-reported by the landscape professional who earns them. To earn CEUs, professionals must have the date of the radio show, topic, and amount of CEUs earned. To learn more about the Irrigation Association and CEUs, visit
