The Island Packet reports Bluffton County has issued a stop-work order to developer Stafford Properties to prevent further construction after most the trees and vegetation in a 50-foot protected buffer zone were cleared.

A member of the Southern Beaufort County Corridor Review Board saw the violation. It has also come to the notice of the board that some business owners remove trees from these green buffer zones to give drivers better views of their buildings.

The developer will be required to plant trees back in the buffer and may have to pay the county for other trees it removed.
