Cal Poly Professor Receives Education Award


During Smart Irrigation Month, three 2018 award winners were recognized for enhancing the irrigation industry through education and efficient irrigation practices.

The Irrigation Association and Irrigation Foundation have announced the 2018 recipients of the following awards: the Industry Achievement Award, the Vanguard Awards, and the Excellence in Education Award.

Jim Klauzer, a sales agronomist of Clearwater Supply in Ontario, Oregon, received the Industry Achievement Award for his significant contributions to the development of the irrigation industry. He has been a driving force in the increased use of efficient irrigation technology in the Pacific Northwest region.

Two companies were honored as recipients of the Vanguard Awards. The award recognizes groups and organizations that demonstrate an irrigation project of innovation. The Conserva Irrigation - Target Corporation saved more than 36 millions gallons of water due to their changing approach to irrigation services. Netafim USA and Gallo Vineyards Inc. worked on a variable rate drip irrigation project resulting in the improvement of water-use efficiency.

The Excellence in Education Award was given to Franklin Gaudi, EdD, CID, CIC, CAIS of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. He is a project manager for the Irrigation Training and Research Center and educator in irrigation, sharing his research and project experience in the classroom.

The recipients and their projects will be honored at the Irrigation Show and Education Conference in Long Beach, California, on December 6.
