CALGARY, Alberta -- The International Federation of Landscape Architects 40th annual IFLA World Congress will be held May 25-29 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. These congresses support IFLA's goal of bringing together those who are involved in environmental design and are addressed to all landscape architects, planners, architects, environmentalists, artists, students, governmental authorities and non-governmental organizations. The 2003 Congress in Calgary, Canada, has the theme "Landscapes on the Edge," and provides a forum for examining a range of topics related to the global landscape within the framework of theory, practice and technology. The Congress speakers, programs, and tours are designed to inform and present a country of both urban and rural landscapes. Calgary is an attractive and dynamic city situated at the confluence of the Bow and the Elbow Rivers and close to Alberta's majestic Rocky Mountains. The Bow River in Calgary is world renowned for its fly-fishing. So, whether fly fishing, horseback riding, a guided coach tour to the Rocky Mountains, or white water rafting is your passion, there's simply not enough time to do all that Calgary has to offer. Other attractions within Calgary include the Devonian Gardens, the Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park, Fort Calgary, Eau Claire Market, and the Calgary Tower. Canada, at the top of the Americas, has the world's second largest land mass and a population of over 30 million. It is a country where diversity is the keynote of both natural geography and settlement areas, and includes fertile plains, vast mountain ranges, lakes and rivers, wilderness forests, arctic tundra, and socially multicultural cities. The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA) and the Alberta Association of Landscape Architects (AALA) are organizing this IFLA World Congress. This gathering will be the first of its kind to be held in North America in the new millennium.
