Joel Albizo, CAE Is New CLARB Exe. Director

Joel Albizo, CAE, will take over as executive director of CLARB in mid-July 2007.

The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) announced the selection of Joel D. Albizo, CAE, as executive director. Created in 1970, CLARB is the body that licenses landscape architects in 49 states (all except Vermont), two Canadian provinces (Ontario and British Columbia) and Puerto Rico. CLARB is headquartered in Fairfax, Va.

Albizo is currently deputy executive director of marketing and customer services for the Chicago-based Society of Actuaries (SOA). He is a board member of the Center for Association Leadership and has served as president of the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Prior to joining SOA, Albizo was vice president of sales and marketing with PlantAmerica, an online company providing resources and services for the horticultural profession. He also was the senior director of association and member services with the American Nursery & Landscape Association in Washington, D.C.

"I feel good about the (job) search and even better about the outcome," said CLARB President James Figurski, ASLA. "We could not have found a better executive director for CLARB."

Mr. Albizo will succeed Robert Van Hook, CAE, who has been CLARB's interim executive director since Aug. 2006.

"It is a bittersweet time for me," said commented Mr. Van Hook. "The sweet part is I know Joel is a terrific association executive and will do a great job for CLARB. The bitter part is I'm going to be leaving a group of people I have grown to love and respect."

On another front, CLARB will hold its 2007 annual meeting in Cleveland, Ohio, Sept. 6-8.
