Okay friends, it's time to bury a hatchet that has been tossed around for a long time now. If you drive a truck, you undoubtedly know what I am talking about - the long drawn-out quarrel between Ford truck drivers and Chevrolet truck drivers.

Admit it, you or somebody you know has been involved in an argument over which truck maker is better. I've seen it break up friendships and somewhere out there I bet it's broken up a marriage or two. I'd go as far as saying that if they had automobiles back in Shakespeare's day, the Capulets and Montagues would have been divided on this issue as well. I think it's about time for a change, how about you?

In light of the recent events, it's time to come together, and I'd like to get the ball rolling with this month's HorsePower. Those who know me know that I am a Ford man when it comes to trucks, but while researching the most powerful truck engine to highlight for this month, I have to take my hat off (my Ford hat) to the makers of Chevy trucks.

Like a Rock

So now you're thinking, you get the power but lose the amenities. Again, I tip my hat to Chevy. Included in the Vortec 8100 is a coolant loss protection feature which lets the driver continue travelling at a reduced speed, allowing him or her to reach a service station. This could come in handy. Just think, you won't have to sit on the side of the road for hours waiting for a tow truck. Even better, you don't have to listen to the tow-truck driver's life story. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the tow-truck drivers of the world, but if I need to ride in a tow truck, I have other things to worry about than if they should get their significant other's name tattooed on their arm. (By the way, if you need to ask, the answer is "No.")

Other features include: a high-capacity, internally balanced crankshaft that reduces stress (on the crankshaft, not on you); efficient seals combined with large, flat surfaces to minimize the chance of oil leaks; efficient combustion provided by equal-length runners in the intake manifold; stainless-steel exhaust manifolds; and accessory drive belts which can go 150,000 miles before being replaced.

There you have it. Now will I be trading in my Ford for a Chevy? Don't count on it. I do however, have a new respect for Chevy trucks. I mean, if we can overcome so many other differences in these trying times, why can't we accept Ford and Chevy trucks as being two quality American made vehicles? Oh, and if any of bin Laden's boys are reading this, tell him he might want to consider trading in his current transportation for a Chevy; he's gonna need the extra power to pull his butt out of the deep doo-doo he got himself into.
