Matt Allen

Foster Conant & Associates Landscape Architects and Site Planners, announced that Matt Allen has joined the firm as associate landscape designer. Allen is a Florida native where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in landscape architecture at the University of Florida. His expertise is in the resort and theme park arena. He recently completed the Cabana Bay Resort at Universal Orlando with his former employer.


Mahan Rykiel new staff and summer interns: Mike Humes, Chunxiao Wang, Wilson Lee, Alexandra Odom, Justin Park and Megan Griffith.

Mahan Rykiel Associates, a Baltimore-based landscape architecture, urban design and planning firm, announced that Justin Park, Michael Humes, and Megan Griffith have joined their staff and Chunxiao Wang, Wilson Lee and Alexandria Odom are interning for the summer. Landscape designer Park joined the staff in April, and his personal interest in landscape architecture centers on sustainability and originates from his background in environmental science. Humes is a 2014 graduate of Penn State University and recipient of the 2010, 2011 and 2013 "Excellence in the Study of Landscape Architecture" Award. Griffith will be joining the planning studio. With a specialization in urban design and sustainable cities, she earned her masters of city and regional planning from Morgan State University, where she was also the recipient of the 2014 AICP Outstanding Student Award. Wang is a visiting graduate student from Penn State University. She graduated from Beijing Forestry University with a degree in landscape architecture in 2010. Her current research focuses on sustainable stormwater management and ecological infrastructure. Lee is a rising senior studying landscape architecture at Penn State University with an interest in urban design through the lens of sustainability. During his studies, he enjoys research utilizing geographic information systems to inform the conceptual design phase. Odom is a rising junior at Grinnell College in Iowa with a major in history, specializing in American history, world history, and American government. She has also worked on research projects with the University of Maryland, Baltimore.


Lu Gay Lanier

Lu Gay Lanier, FASLA has been with Timmons Group for more than 10 years and directs the firm's emerging landscape architecture practice. She was named as a new associate of the firm in January 2014. Lanier has assembled a talented team of specialists and created a thriving operation. She and her team deliver exceptional projects to their clients, both internal and external.


Len Phillips

Richard Gibney has merged with on-line seminars to provide CEUs and PDHs to both International Society of Arboriculture certified arborists and registered landscape architects. Len Phillips, a landscape architect and municipal tree warden, has been administering on-line seminars for arborists for nine years. Richard Gibney, a practicing landscape architect and certified arborist in New York, initiated a site for landscape architecture continuing education credits based on Len's model and received LA CES approval as a provider. Many of Phillips' articles prove to be well suited for landscape architecture credit. The arborist seminars will continue to explore and explain the many aspects of arboriculture with Len contributing articles and editing peer articles.


Mike Fishbaugh

Mike Fishbaugh has been named a partner of Coleman & Associates, an Austin, Texas-based landscape architecture firm. He has been with the company for four years and has been a project manager and studio manager prior to his promotion.


Matthew Levi

Matthew Levi, a medically retired army helicopter pilot, works for the town of West Jefferson. N.C. as the town planner since 2006. The Town's streetscape won a 2013 N.C. Small Town Main Street Design Award. A unique partnership between Division 11 of North Carolina DOT, Appalachian District Health Department, McGill Associates, Ashe County Arts Council, and the town of West Jefferson are responsible for creating the streetscape. Because of the streetscape; economic development results have exceeded all expectations.


Jennifer Guthrie

Shannon Nichol

ASLA announced that Jennifer Guthrie and Shannon Nichol have both been elevated to the ASLA Council of Fellows, one of the highest honors a landscape architect may receive. The investiture ceremony will take place during the Annual Meeting and EXPO in Denver on November 23. The pair founded Gustafson Guthrie Nichol together in 1999 with Kathryn Gustafson, and they are known for their collaborative approach to design. Guthrie and Nichol each received their nominations for works from the Washington Chapter ASLA. For the full list, go to


Henry Sudweeks

Recreation Brands Group, representing Play & Park Structures, UltraSite and UltraPlay, recently welcomed Henry Sudweeks, a licensed landscape architect, to its national sales team. Sudweeks has over 15 years of experience in designing, planning, and managing park and playground projects.
