''Historic'' Playground Gets Update

Historic Rudolph Blankenburg Elementary in West Philadelphia has updated its playground.

Rudolph Blankenburg Elementary in West Philadelphia is on the National Register of Historic Places. The school “playground” was what you might also call “historical.” It was highlighted by cracked asphalt, sink holes throughout, three rusty basketball standards with rims but no nets, and shards of glass and weeds scattered about.

But now the school, which serves kindergarten through eighth graders, has a renovated playground thanks to two local women. One of the women, Debra Ruben, a professor of design at Drexel University, organized a group of her undergraduate and graduate students to help renovate the playground.
