Letters to the Editor

October LASN 2004 ASLA Show Issue

Dear Editor, I worked with LASN to submit information from MHTN Architects for your "National ASLA Meeting Edition" of Landscape Architect and Specifier News.

We were very flattered to have our project pictured on the cover of this magazine. Our office subscribes to the magazine, and the special edition where we are featured is a hot commodity--no one wants to share!

I would really appreciate it if you could send me a few copies of the magazine.

Thank you,
Kim Johnson
MHTN Architects, Inc.

Thanks for the kudos Kim. We will mail you three complimentary copies right away. You can also order custom reprints with the cover and your firm's profile for marketing or PR purposes. If you are interested in reprints please e-mail Sheila Mattox at smattox@landscapeonline.com.

So glad you were pleased with the magazine coverage--thanks for the great images (cover shot) and projects.

Best,
Jodie Carter

LASN's November 2004 Erosion Control Issue

Dear Publisher, Congratulations on your recent November 2004 erosion control issue. Your efforts are greatly appreciated here at Texas A & M University. I used your erosion control in the built environment to demonstrate our work in graduate studio. We are producing a master plan for a real client here in Texas. Your article confirmed and demonstrated good principles for design development.

Thank you for what you do for us all in the field.

Dear Editor, On page 116 of the October issue of LASN you are wrong. Hough Beck & Baird did not have any involvement with these projects? They are Beck & Baird projects. I'm very disappointed as I sent the project photos and followed up with a phone call to your staff and was assured they had the info they needed. What a mess up.

Thanks,
Dan Baird

Dan, Thanks for alerting us–and our readers–to this error. Hough Beck & Baird was the original firm founded by Fred Beck, Colie Hough-Beck, and Dan Baird. The images of projects shown on page 116 were all performed by Dan Baird with his new firm, Beck & Baird, which was formed in 1981. Sorry for the inaccuracy--thanks for keeping us on our toes and congratulations on those great projects.

Jodie Carter

"Overlooked Playground Issues" by Arthur H. Mittelstaedt Jr., EdD, LASN August 2004.

Dear Editor, As a designer of outdoor environments for children, I read with interest "Overlooked Playground Issues."

In his drive to control and sterilize the play environment, I believe Mr. Mittelstaedt has overlooked the greatest obstacle to hygienic standardization, which is the children.

Sincerely,
Virginia Sullivan
