Jack Goldman, acting president of the Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association (HPBA), was recently named president by the association's board of directors during a meeting in Reno, Nev. Goldman joined the HPBA in 2000 after spending 10 years as an environmental and patent lawyer. The HPBA is the North American industry association for manufacturers, retailers, distributors, representatives, service firms and allied associates for hearth, patio and barbeque accessories.

Sara Partridge, LEED AP, was recently appointed to the membership committee chair for the U.S. Green Building Council Central Texas – Balcones Chapter. The U.S. Green Building Council is a coalition of leaders from across the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

Contech Construction Products, Inc., has named Rebecca Appenzeller as vice president-legal. She will be responsible for the company's corporate legal affairs following the retirement of Bill Cordes, and she will report directly to Pat Harlow, president and CEO.

Craig R. Stiffler has assumed the newly created position of chief operating officer of Homasote Company, America's oldest manufacturer of building products from recycled material, CEO Warren Flicker announced.

Tiffany Sewell-Howard, CEO of The Charles Machine Works, Inc. in Perry, Okla. has been named chairman of the 2007 International Construction and Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) management committee. The committee oversees show planning. ICUEE 2007 will be held October 16-18 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. Sewell-Howard serves on the board of directors of the Association of Equipment Manufactures (AEM) and the Oklahoma Sate Chamber of Commerce.


Deborah M. Hamlin, a professional association executive who led the International Association of Plastics Distributors for 10 years, will be the next executive director of the Irrigation Association. Hamlin will relocate to Falls Church, Va., from Leawood, Kan., where she has been executive director of the plastics association since 1996. She will join the Irrigation Association staff full time on Sept. 5.

Jeff "Rooster" Southall has joined SAF DEK by Pathway Surfaces, Inc., (formerly No Fault Industries, Inc.) as vice president of sales for the Southeast region.The company is a Baton Rouge-based safety surface and playground construction company.Southall brings 18 years of sports and recreation management to SAF DEK.

Shindaiwa Inc., outdoor power equipment manufacturer, has promoted Melissa Regan to director of finance and management services. Regan will be responsible for all financial, accounting, legal, human resources and administrative services at the company. She will also join the executive committee, the first woman to serve there. Also at Shindaiwa, Jorge Lazo has been promoted to the new position of senior vice president of sales & technical services. Lazo will be responsible for expanding the company's global distribution and sales and service activities.

Initial Tropical Plants recently announced the appointment of Denise Senior as Midwest regional sales manager headquartered in Northbrook, Il.; Ed LeMieux as West Coast regional sales manager headquartered in Denver; and Brad Lockhart as Northeast regional sales manager headquartered in Cincinnati.

Julian Good has joined Spectrum Technologies, Inc. as their new international sales manager. Good has previous experience as an international regional manager and has traveled extensively serving customers in North and Latin America. Also new Spectrum is Paul Meek who joins the company as a controller. Meek has more than 20 years of experience in private and public accounting fields. Spectrum Technologies manufactures weather stations and data loggers.
