Thomas J. McLane and Associates, Inc. is a veteran-owned landscape architecture, environmental science and recreation planning firm established in 1989 by its principal, Thomas J. McLane, RLA, ASLA. His experience has facilitated growth into a community-oriented firm within Northeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. The firm is located in an old neighborhood grocery store in Scranton, Pennsylvania. For over 30 years, McLane Associates has nourished an environmentally conscious approach for planning, design and engineering of sustainable trails, recreation and park facilities. Site designs begin with conceptual storm-water quality mitigation techniques that marry landscape aesthetics with multi-functional combinations of gray and green infrastructure features.

Nay Aug Avenue Natural Play Area, City of Scranton, Penn.
The Nay Aug Avenue Recreation Area and Trailhead is an adaptable re-use of a vacant block-long linear strip of federal buy-out property now managed as a lawn by the City of Scranton. The play area theme mimics a beaver pond ecosystem both in site design and custom-designed play features including a snake and fish climbers, a lily pad stage, and a fishing shack. It is bounded by a two-lane tike-trail designed to teach children about basic road safety rules like "Beaver Crossing" signage and cross walks. Educational signage, conceptual renderings, final design and bid documents were prepared. They also assisted with park programming and community arts competitions. This was the first DCNR funded natural play area in Pennsylvania.
