Merrick & Co., an international engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying, and "geospatial" firm, has acquired Turnbull Metzler Design (TMD) of Charlotte, N.C., a landscape architecture and land planning firm.

Merrick, an employed-owned company, focuses on sustainable design and construction practices within the energy, security, life sciences and infrastructure markets. The firm has 55 LEED-accredited professionals.

With the addition of TMD to the organization, Merrick now comprises 12 offices, nine in the U.S., an office in Ontario, Canada and two offices in Mexico.

"The addition of TMD to our employee-owned firm bolsters Merrick's service offerings to clients, especially those in the southeast," said Ralph Christie Jr., PE, CEO of Merrick.

TMD has served corporate, institutional and municipal clients in the southeastern U.S. since 1987. Walter and Sandy Turnbull are the firm's founding principles.

This acquisition gives Merrick the added professional services of land planning and landscape architecture, and allows TMD to extend its geographic reach.
