Dennis Yukio Otsuji Douglas Rohr Robert Barden Johnathan Crowder

Dennis Yukio Otsuji, of San Diego, has been appointed as a member of the Landscape Architect Technical Committee, which assists the California Architects Board in the examination of candidates for a landscape architect's license. Otsuji has been a licensed landscape architect for over 29 years and is currently president/principal of ONA, Inc. A past president of the ASLA, and recipient of the ASLA's President's Medal for unparalleled contribution to the profession of landscape architecture, Otsuji is also a member of the California Council of the American Society of Landscape Architects and former president of the Landscape Architecture Foundation.

ColeJenest & Stone, P.A. of Charlotte, North Carolina has brought on three new members. Douglas Rohr has joined as a team manager of the Education Team. Rohr earned his bachelor of landscape architecture degree from Syracuse University and holds an associate of applied science in recreational land management. Robert Baysden has joined as a project civil engineer. Baysden received his BS in civil engineering from Clemson University. Jonathan Crowder has joined as a project landscape architect. Crowder received his M.L.A. from Harvard University. ColeJenest & Stone is moving its growing office to 200 South Tyron in March 2004.

Landplan, a Lawrence, KS firm that provides civil engineering, landscape architecture and surveying services has added Mark Gardner, PE, RLA, as an engineer manager. Gardner earned his M.A.E. from the University of Kansas and a B.S. in landscape architecture from Kansas State University and is a registered professional engineer and landscape architect in Kansas.

Jeff Howard has been appointed project manager at CityWorks, one of San Diego's leading urban planning firms specializing in revitalizing communities. Howard received his B.L.A. from the University of Arizona at Tucson and is a registered landscape architect in the of California.

Gardeners' Guild of San Rafael, a California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) member, recently received the 2003 Golden Spire Outstanding Business of the Year award from Marin County, California

Nicole Horst has been promoted by Wenk Associates Inc. to the position of project landscape architect. Horst joined Wenk Associates in January 2000 and has provided site analysis, planning and construction documentation.

Dow AgroSciences announced its president and CEO since 1997, Charles Fischer, will retire, effective February 1, after 37 years of service. Fischer will become chairman of the Dow AgroSciences Members Committee, which oversees the executive board's policy and investments. Jerome Peribere, currently vice president of agricultural chemicals, has been selected to succeed Fischer as president and CEO.

Todd Mohr has joined Aqua Engineering, Inc., a Fort Collins, Colorado provider of water engineering services, as project manager.

The Irrigation Association (IA) has named Ron Marlow, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as its 2003 Person of the Year Award recipient, and Bob Rupar, vice president, marketing for Nelson Irrigation Corporation in Walla Walla, Washington, as the 2003 Industry Achievement Award recipient. Gary Underhill received the 2003 Crawford Reid Memorial Award, which honors individuals who have made significant achievements in the promotion of proper irrigation techniques and procedures, as well as producing major industry advancement outside of the United States. Dennis McKernan has been selected to lead the IA's education program as education director. McKernan is an award-winning instructor, teaching at Olds College in Olds, Alberta, Canada since 1986, specializing in turfgrass and irrigation management.

Don Spier is new director of Precision Laboratories' Turf Business Unit. He will be responsible for specialty-turf sales and marketing.

New sales personnel at Syngenta Professional Products, in Greensboro, N.C., include Tom Halvorson as Midwest district sales manager; Howard Jaekle as Northeast district sales manager; and Pablo Perez as sales specialist in south Florida.

TechScape has been recognized with the Decade Award by the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA). The company has also earned 35 national safety awards for its safety awareness and performance.

In one of his last actions as 2002-03 Turfgrass Producers International (TPI) President, Art Campbell, President of Campbell Sod, Rossville, KS, received the "first-ever" (TPI) Presidential Leadership Award, which recognizes a member who has demonstrated exemplary dedication and performance in a leadership role.
