New Educational Tracks by the IECA

The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) condenses its educational tracks by replacing the eight technology sections with four new primary topics of interest in an effort to better serve the needs of members. An explanation of the four new tracks: Erosion & Sediment Control, Stormwater Management, MS4 Management and Surface Water Restoration can be found below.

Jerry Sanders, Professional Development Committee Chair says, ''The Educational Track system will help our membership and visitors to easily identify their desired area of specialization, while also providing a broad range of educational opportunities. These opportunities are not only provided to those who want to increase their knowledge and expertise, it also creates a larger platform for individuals to share their knowledge and experience with others.''

Erosion & Sediment Control
The educational cornerstone of IECA has long been Erosion and Sediment Control. This wide-ranging educational track encompasses many of the long-standing technology sections that have been part of the Association's educational offerings. Topics in this track include erosion and sediment control BMPs, SWPPP management, vegetative establishment, wind erosion, slope technology, inspecting, monitoring and maintenance, and professional certifications. This track includes construction stormwater related business and legal issues.

Stormwater Management
This track covers the far-reaching field of managing stormwater in the post-construction urban environment. Subject matter such as regulatory requirements and compliance, green infrastructure, post-construction stormwater practices, water quality monitoring, and water quality modeling are coverd in this educational track.

MS4 Management
This educational track focuses on all of the various aspects required of a Municiple Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit. Many stormwater professionals are expected to have expertise across a wide scope of programs, especially smaller MS4's. Thousands of municipalities around the world are tasked with implementing strategies to lessen impacts of urban stormwater and industrial pollution. Subjects such as illicit discharge detection & elimination, industrial stormwater management, municipal good housekeeping, program funding mechanisms, and education programs are all addressed in this educational track.

Surface Water Restoration
This educational track encompasses the focused, intricate and detailed work of restoring and enhancing the waters of our oceans, lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. Topics include wetlands restoration technology, stream restoration, and beach & shoreline stabilization.
