New Jersey ASLA Chapter

New Jersey Chapter's Professional Awards took place during its annual meeting, March 12-14, at the Harrah's Waterfront Conference Center in Atlantic City. The "Chapter" award went to Hunts Point Landing in the Bronx, by Signe Nielsen, FASLA and Robert DeMarco, Mathew Nielsen Landscape Architects (MNLA). The site is at the confluence of the Bronx and East Rivers. MNLA's stormwater and shoreline design was recognized by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which provided grant money for its construction.

On Oct. 31, the NJASLA's Education Foundation presented three education tracts from Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories under the heading of "Ensuring Great Designs Become Great Landscapes":

- "The Beginning: Healthy Soils Ensures Healthy Plants," by Dr. Neil Hendrickson, northeast regional technical rep.

- "The Execution: Planting Techniques to Ensure First Year Survival and Long Term Plant Health," by Dr. Bruce Fraedrich, plant pathologist.

-"Beyond the First Year: Ensuring the Design will Attain Expectations," by Drs. Hendrickson and Fraedrich.

There was a walking tour of Meadow Lakes Arboretum in the afternoon to discuss the its top performing plants and mature tree management.

The 2018 NJASLA Annual Meeting will be held February 11-13 at Harrah's Waterfront Resort in Atlantic City.
