Tournament Again Raises Money for Scholarships

Robert Cardoza, one of the founding members of CLASS Fund, tees off at that organization's yearly charity golf tournament in Cota de Caza, California.

On Monday, June 24, the California Landscape Architecture Student Scholarship Fund (CLASS Fund) held their annual fundraiser; the 37th Annual Golf Classic. The annual tournament brings together landscape architects, contractors and suppliers to raise funds for scholarships in landscape architecture and industry-related fields of study such as ornamental horticulture and irrigation science. The scholarships are made available to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in accredited California programs and they must be continuing their studies within their respective fields. Funds raised also assist educational and scientific research projects at University's across the country in coordination with CELA (Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture).

For the second straight year, the golf tournament was held at the Coto de Caza Golf and Racquet Club in Coto de Caza which is in the Trabuco Canyon area of South Orange County in Southern California.

Victoria Phillipy, the Executive Director and Scholarship Co-chair for the foundation, was very pleased with the tournament day's events, telling Landscape Architect Weekly, "We had 152 golfers and it was a beautiful day at Cota de Caza. It's such a busy time for everybody; but people tell us they look forward to the annual event. They have so much fun and it is such a worthy cause, they don't mind taking a day off."

This year's tournament raised $100,000 in support of their educational efforts.
