Situated in the Wisdom Bay Innovation Park in Shanghai China is the world's longest 3-dimensionally printed bridge. It was printed with composite materials containing polyethylene fiber concrete.

One hundred people were invited to stand on the bridge to test its strength.

Located in Shanghai, China, within a business park that is home to China's 3D Printing Museum and a handful of robotics companies, is the world's longest 3D-printed concrete pedestrian bridge, which opened in early January, 2019.

It was designed by Professor Xu Weiguo from Tsinghua University in the Zoina Land Joint Research Center for Digital Architecture and built jointly with the Shanghai Wisdom Bay Investment Management Company.
The bridge measures 26.3 meters long by 3.6 meters wide and was reportedly inspired by the ancient Anji Bridge in Zhaoxian, China. The pond that the bridge spans is called the Shanghai Wisdom Pond.

In order to construct the bridge, 44 hollowed-out 3d-printed concrete units were placed using a crane. Then 68 handrail units, made of the same materials and in the same manner as the concrete blocks, were added.

The design process consisted of constructing a 1:4 scale model to demonstrate the scheme's viability. During the printing process, two robotic arms worked for roughly 450 hours to produce the entirety of the bridge's segments.

Archdaily.com, a website focused on architecture research and projects, states that "The streamlined process is estimated to have produced savings of 33% when compared to a more conventional construction process - attributed mainly to the elimination of templates and reinforcing bars."

One very interesting fact about the bridge is that is contains a real-time monitoring system that will be able to provide data on vibration stressors and other external strains.
