Construction Adds Few September Jobs
Construction unemployment reached 11.9 percent in September, relatively unchanged despite adding 5,000 jobs nationwide. More than two million workers have left construction for retirement or other industries since the recession began, potentially fueling a shortage of skilled workers when the economic rebound ramps up.

Kansas Approves Wastewater For Irrigation Use

Lawrence and other Kansas cities have been permitted by the state to use treated effluent water to irrigate landscaping, offsetting the amount of potable water necessary to do so. The summer drought spurred local officials to push the permit through.

For landscape maintenance professionals, less time spent mowing and maintaining a given property means more efficiency and potentially higher profits. Museum Park Shrinks

The new Miami Art Museum is on schedule for completion for the fall of 2013, while the new Miami Science Museum (MiaSci), which broke ground in February, eyes a completion date for the end of 2014. The ambitious plans to redevelop Bicentennial Park as Museum Park, however, have been scaled back to a promenade and bay walk. Still, both museums will have will have extensive landscaping.

Mount Greenwood Park, Chicago: The Artful Playground

Mount Greenwood Park in Chicago received an all-new play area as part of a larger park renovation that also included improved baseball and softball fields, an ice-skating rink and a swimming pool. The new play space has separate modular play structures for ages 2-5 and 5-12, two swing sets, a splash pad and interactive ''sound sculptures''.
