Irrigation Association's Product Contest Winners

On December 6, the Irrigation Association announced the 2018 New Product Contest winners at the Irrigation Show and Conference in Long Beach, Calif. In total, there were five categories, with 58 new products and technologies entered into the contest. Professionals with knowledge and expertise in the industry judged the contest and based their evaluations on "innovation, design quality, increased water/resource-use efficiency, ease of use and product life expectancy." Of the five categories, three dealt specifically in landscape.

For the landscape irrigation category, the winner is the Great Plains Industries' FLOMEC QS200 Insertion Ultrasonic Flowmeter. The product measures flow using ultrasonic technology, rather than by sensing the flow. The flowmeter does not have moving parts, and it includes LED to indicate power and flow activity. Additionally, it "retrofits into Data Industrial PVC tees."

The winner of the landscape specialty category is Ecoturf Midwest Inc.'s TreeDiaper 36" Advanced Hydration Mat, which manages and stores water for new plantings by utilizing super-absorbent polymers. Furthermore, the TreeDiaper serves as a weed barrier and frost protection blanket.

The WiFi Smart MR-16 and PAR-36 lamps by Brilliance LED is the winner of the landscape lighting category. Fully controllable from a smart phone, these lamps can be individualized or grouped into zones, with the ability to change colors, dim and set timers.
