N.Y. Upstate Chapter ASLA Announces Award Winners

The New York Upstate Chapter ASLA Annual Reception will include the presentation of awards, dinner and dessert, a free film screening and a gift basket raffle.

The New York Upstate Chapter of the ASLA has announced its 2019 award winners. The categories for the chapter awards include the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Distinguished Student Award and the Distinguished Practitioner Awards. All awards will be officially presented at the New York Upstate Chapter ASLA Annual Reception on March 15, 2019 at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, N. Y.

The 2019 Lifetime Achievement Award, which is an executive committee nominated award, will go to Richard S. Hawks, FASLA. Hawks is recognized for his contributions to the profession over his career as both an educator and a designer. Hawks worked as an associate for EDAW, Inc. for four years and as a consultant for Reimann-Buechner Partnership for 12 years. He is currently a professor at State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

The Distinguished Student Award will go to Lois Nguyen who attends Cornell University. Nguyen is recognized for her demonstration of leadership and service within the Department of Landscape Architecture.

There are three categories for the Distinguished Practitioner Awards, which recognize individual practitioners for their achievements in design, leadership and ASLA Chapter involvement. In the category of Public Practice, the award will go to Mark Mistretta, RLA, ASLA, from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. In the category of Private Practice, the award will go to Peter Osborne, RLA, ASLA, of Appel Osborne Landscape Architecture. In the category of Academic Practice, the award will go to Anne C. Godfrey, RLA, ASLA, of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
