American Trails, an association that promotes the protection and appreciation of trails in the United States, has announced the winners of its 2018 National Recreation Trails (NRT) photo contest. American Trails first began holding the competition in 2003, and since then, they have sponsored the annual photo contest to celebrate trails throughout the country and to highlight the diversity of NRTs, from backcountry trails to urban greenways.
American Trails received 136 entry images of National Recreation Trails, and the winners range from an urban trail in Puerto Rico to an off-road trail in Montana. Water trails are represented, as are snowmobile trails, backcountry hiking and equestrian trails, and three well-traveled commuter trails in Colorado, California and Texas.
The award-winning photos fall under three sections: Trail Use, Trail Management, Trail Features and Artistic Merit. From the 136 entries, American Trails selected 16 winners.
